TAPROOT THEATRE EXTENDS MAN OF LA MANCHA

Intimate new staging selling quickly, runs eight additional performances

SEATTLE – July 28, 2010 – Seattle audiences have two additional weeks to join Don Quixote(Jeff Berryman) and Sancho Panza (Don Darryl Rivera) on their quest to discover a world filled with beauty, hope and wonder in Man of La Mancha. Responding to demand and packed houses, Taproot Theatre Company has extended the run of this Tony Award-winning musical for two weeks. Man of La Mancha now runs through August 21, with performances Wednesday through Saturday evenings(no Saturday matinees during the extension).

Don Quixote is mad... mad enough to dream an impossible dream while tilting after windmills with his trusty sidekick, Sancho Panza. Quixote’s romantic quest is as crazy as he is. But is his impossible dream madness or vision? The trial is about to begin. Taproot Theatre’s production—directed by producing artistic director Scott Nolte with musical direction by Edd Key—features fresh, acoustic arrangements and an intimate setting that transports the audience to the Spanish dungeon where Cervantes’ story unfolds. Man of La Mancha was written by Dale Wasserman with music byMitch Leigh and lyrics by Joe Darion. The original production was staged by Albert Marre, and it was originally produced by Albert W. Selden and Hal James.

In addition to Berryman and Rivera, Taproot Theatre’s cast features Candace Vance as Aldonza/Dulcinea, along with Ryan Childers, Stephen Grenley, Pam Nolte, Mike Oliver, Faith Russell and April Wolfe. The band features Jared Borkowski and Gordon Tibbits on guitar, and Ivan Arteaga provides percussion. The production team includes scenic and sound designer Mark Lund, costume designer Sarah Burch Gordon and lighting designer Andrew Duff. Deborah Armstrong Evans serves as stage manager, Kate Forster as dialect coach, Christy McNeil as choreographer and Sonja Lowe as dramaturg.
