Seattle Repertory Theatre Announces its 2010-2011 Season!

Seattle, WA: Steve Jobs, three tall women, five Irish sisters, and an entire small town haunted by one strange urban legend. Seattle Repertory Theatreannounces its 2010-11 season, which brings to life a whole host of characters (fictional and otherwise) in eight plays by some of the most exciting new writers and celebrated contemporary playwrights. Season tickets go on sale April 8.

"This season is all about the mix of long-time favorites with up-and-coming voices," said Producing Artistic Director Jerry Manning. "When you take the full journey of the season with us, you get to see the scope of contemporary theatre—from plays by the venerable Edward Albee to one of the country's most exciting new voices, Tarell McCraney."

Some of those long-time favorites include John Steinbeck's Of Mice and Men, the beautiful Irish family drama Dancing at Lughnasa, and Albee'sThree Tall Women.

New works include the recent Broadway smash God of Carnage; McCraney's moving story of two brothers in the Louisiana bayou, The Brothers Size; and monologist Mike Daisey's hilarious and razor-sharp take on Steve Jobs andApple Computers.

The season also includes The K of D, an urban legend, a quirky ghost storydeveloped here in Seattle and returning after a highly praised run at the New York Fringe Festival; and the tart new "un-romantic comedy" This, a recent Off-Broadway hit.

"Another thing you'll notice is the female presence in this season's plays," Manning said. "It just happened that last season featured a lot of work by and about men. So this season we made a concerted effort to find plays that would provide that balance."

Seattle Rep will also continue its newly reinstated New Play Program, which will include readings and workshops with local and national playwrights throughout the season.

Coming off a critically and commercially successful 2009-10 season, the theatre has moved back to offering eight plays. The previous season was cut to seven—plus an outside partnership—to save money. As a result, the upcoming season features three plays in the intimate Leo K. theatre and five in the Bagley Wright.
