An Honor to be Nominated!

5th Avenue artists, staff up for Seattle’s Gregory Awards

SEATTLE, WA –The 5th Avenue Theatre is proud to have received several nominations this year from Theater Puget Sound’s Gregory Awards, an annual event in which members of Seattle’s theater community vote on their favorite shows and artists from the past year.

Last season’s production of Candide received nominations in no less than six categories, including Actress (Anne Allgood), Director (David Armstrong), Costumes (Lynda L. Salsbury), Set Design (Matthew Smucker), and Lighting Design (Tom Sturge), as well as a nomination for Outstanding Production. Donald Holder (lighting design) also received a nomination for his work on South Pacific, which also played at The 5th last season.

In addition, 5th Avenue Casting Associate and Artistic Project Manager Brandon Ivie received a People’s Choice nomination for his work with his own company Contemporary Classics.

“I am thrilled that our production of Candide has been honored with so many Gregory Awards nominations,” 5th Avenue Executive Producer and Artistic Director David Armstrong said. “This production was truly a labor of love by everyone who worked on it. However, what I am most excited about is that we now have a new vehicle to shine a light on our incredible Puget Sound theater community. I have always thought that there are only three great theater towns in the United States — New York, Chicago and Seattle -- and we should constantly be singing the praises of what we have here because it is truly extraordinary. The Gregory Awards is a wonderful new way to help accomplish that goal.”

The awards will be presented on October 25, 2010, at ACT Theatre, 700 Union Street and will include a catered reception and live entertainment throughout the evening. Tickets for the event can be purchased athttp://www.acttheatre.org/Shows/OnStage/2010GregoryAwards.
