Seattle, WA – April 22, 2010 – ACT is proud to launch its 2010 Mainstage series with the enduring American classic, The Trip to Bountiful by Pulitzer Prize winning author Horton Foote, May 7-June 6, 2010.

Initially released as a television play in 1953, and later adapted into an Academy Award winning film in 1985, The Trip to Bountiful now makes its Seattle premiereat ACT in the Allen arena stage, directed by the renowned Victor Pappas.

An unforgettable meditation on the idea of home and its power to sustain us, The Trip to Bountiful follows the elderly Carrie Watts (Marianne Owen) as she dreams endlessly of visiting her childhood home one last time before it is too late. But first, before she embarks on a sentimental journey home, she must find a way to escape the suffocating confinement of an over-bearing daughter-in-law (Mary Kae Irvin) and her under-serving son (Paul Morgan Stetler). What follows is a touching and inspiring crossing through 1950s Texas as Carrie learns to connect with that place in herself that creates a sense of home, of belonging.

“Carrie sets out thinking that Bountiful is the answer, and what she discovers along the way is something I feel is one of the deepest, most important lessons we can learn: that life can only be what it is. Life can’t be what it was, can’t be what you want it to be, can’t be what it should be — it can only be what it is. And if you can accept that, you can find home wherever you are,” said Director Victor Pappas. “I’m thrilled to have had the chance to take this Trip to Bountiful with a wonderful company of actors, who are so gifted individually and so gifted together as an ensemble, and with designers who have taken the spare lyricism of Foote’s style and made it manifest visually in this fantastic space.”

The Trip to Bountiful features a talented and adept seven person cast including: Ian Bell (Houston Ticket Agent), Mary Kae Irvin (Jessie Mae Watts), Charles Leggett (Sheriff), Jessica Martin (Thelma), Marianne Owen (Carrie Watts), Paul Morgan Stetler (Ludie Watts), and Wesley Rice (Ray/2nd Ticket Agent).

Tickets for The Trip to Bountiful are on sale now through the ACT Ticket Office at 700 Union Street, via phone (206) 292-7676 or online at www.acttheatre.org.
